Head of Platform Engineering
Seqera

Seqera exists to advance science for everyone through software We provide software for scientists solving today's most complex and important challenges from pioneering innovative therapeutics to unveiling the secrets of our universe. The journey began a decade ago with Nextflow — open software that helps over 100,000 global scientists analyze and process data, with more power and flexibility than ever before. Today, Seqera consolidates fragmented data and diverse computing resources into a unified platform. Our modern biotech stack is trusted by over 150 leading life sciences organizations. Empowered with modern software engineering, organizations conduct science faster, on larger datasets, and with more confidence. Seqera accelerates discoveries in an open world. Would you like to be a part of a company with a bigger purpose and make it successful with your own ideas? If yes, keep reading! About Seqera Seqera is on a mission to empower scientists and organizations to solve humanity’s biggest challenges through data-driven science. As the company behind Nextflow and the Seqera Platform, we enable global enterprises, biotech innovators, academic institutions, and public sector organizations to scale complex data workflows with confidence. We’re a global, remote-friendly team with headquarters in Barcelona and colleagues across the US, UK, and beyond. As we continue to grow, we’re strengthening our internal foundations - and that’s where you come in. About the role We are seeking a leader for our Platform Infrastructure team. This role owns infrastructure at Seqera in both directions: the internal platform our engineers build on, and the infrastructure we ship to customers. A large share of our customers experience Seqera through the infrastructure your team produces, which means much of this work is a product surface held to a product's quality bar. You will lead a team of DevOps and security engineers, and you will be a key member in our architecture review process, where infrastructure, security, and operability are weighed at design time alongside every other significant technical decision. This is a leadership role for someone who wants to define how a growing engineering organization builds, ships, and operates. You will report to the CTO. What You'll Do Own the reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness of our cloud infrastructure, and the ongoing health of the platform - what gets maintained, upgraded, and retired, not only what gets built. Lead the technical launch of our dedicated single-tenant hosting offering: tenancy and isolation model, provisioning, upgrade and patching strategy across many customer instances, operational tooling, and the per-tenant cost model it will be priced against. Own our Helm charts and Terraform provider as products - versioned, documented, and tested against supported deployment topologies, with the compatibility obligations that customer-deployed infrastructure carries. Own CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and the supported path from empty repo to production, so that teams get pipelines, deployment standards, and observability defaults without assembling them each time. Make cloud cost an engineering discipline: attribution by team and by tenant, anomaly alerting, an efficiency backlog with quantified savings, and cost as an input at design time rather than a surprise after the fact. Lead our security posture in practice - security architecture applied during design review, and the security story we present to enterprise and life-sciences customers. Own our formal incident response: severity definitions, an incident commander rotation, runbooks for our top failure modes, and blameless postmortems that change something. Define what production-ready means at Seqera - tests, observability, documentation, runbooks - and hold the bar consistently across teams. Grow and develop the Platform Infrastructure team, including active hiring at the senior engineer level and active mentorship and career planning for the whole team. Partner with engineering, product, and customer-facing teams to bring infrastructure expertise into decisions early. About you You have led infrastructure, platform, or SRE teams with direct accountability for production reliability, and you are still close enough to the work to review it, set the standard, and make architectural calls yourself. You have deep Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform experience in enterprise settings, and strong opinions about infrastructure-as-code earned from operating it. You have shipped infrastructure that customers deploy and run themselves. You know that charts and modules used by people you will never meet is a different discipline from internal IaC - versioning, backward compatibility, upgrade paths, and support all become your problem. You have real security depth. You can lead a security architecture conversation rather than coordinate one. You treat cloud cost as an engineering responsibility, and you can build cost models that stand up to commercial scrutiny. You have built incident response rather than just carried the pager, and you have handled complex incidents including those involving customer infrastructure. You are comfortable as a technical peer with senior engineers who will challenge you, and equally comfortable presenting to leadership and customers. You write things down. We are moving deliberately from knowledge held by individuals to standards that are explicit, teachable, and enforceable. You are comfortable with ambiguity, and you would rather define a platform than operate one that already exists. Nice to have: Experience with single-tenant, dedicated, or customer-isolated deployment models - fleet provisioning, upgrade orchestration across many instances, isolation guarantees. Developer productivity or internal developer platform experience. Scientific, research, or high-performance computing environments; large-scale batch and data-intensive workloads. Experience with multiple cloud providers. Release engineering experience. Open-source community exposure - much of what we build is used in the open. Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to enterprise life-sciences customers. Great benefits Time off: 23 days for vacations per year, 3 days given by Seqera in December, and the national/public holidays according to your location. Equity Private health insurance Private life insurance Home office allowance (valued over 1,000 USD) Subscription to Oliva, Mental Health App Learning and development budget per year (1,000 USD)

With 50 million users and counting, we're not just building products — we're creating entirely new categories. Our flagship product is the world’s largest AI companionship platform, redefining relationships for millions. It is governed by our proprietary moderation system, EverGuard — an internal AI designed to ensure everything we build is safe, ethical, and human-first. And we’re only just getting started! Our Team We are an enthusiastic, passionate and hardworking team of 100 people. Our founding team has strong entrepreneurial experience building and scaling web products from 0 to IPO. Alexis Soulopoulos [CEO] 10+ years in Tech Executive Leadership Co-Founder Mad Paws Holdings (from 0 to IPO) Forbes 30 under 30 + Deloitte TechFast50 ’22 & ‘23 Michael Monin [Co-founder & CTO] 10+ years as CTO / COO (web2/web3), 3 years in AI/LLM Serial-entrepreneur: MTK Digital (exited / 0->$20m revenue) and Zipchat (AI Chatbot for E-commerce brands) Thomas Lacroix [Co-founder & CMO] 8+ years in Customer Acquisition & E-commerce Growth Serial-entrepreneur: Curatible (sold to Blackstone) and MTK Digital (exited / 0->$20m revenue) Maruša Fasano [CFO/Legal] 25+ years in Finance, Strategy, M&A Ex-CFO/M&A @Curatible (exited to Blackstone) Ex-President of the Board @SotremoSA (exited) Co-founder/CFO @SoftOne (exited) Your Role Most Business Analyst roles are built around decks — you analyze, you recommend, someone else decides, someone else executes. This role is built differently: we're hiring an Analyst who does more than produce the recommendation. You'll frame the problem, build the model, pressure-test your own conclusions, and take the result directly to the people who'll act on it — with as few layers as possible. You'll work directly with our founders and Executive team on a product already used by more than 50 million people. At this scale, a single sharp insight — a pricing lever, a churn pattern, a broken funnel — can move numbers that would take a much larger company months to shift. If your instinct was always to wonder what happened after the deck was presented, this is your chance to find out. Your Responsibilities This is a hybrid role: part analyst, part operator. Some weeks you'll be modeling a pricing decision; others you'll be in the day-to-day of the business — unblocking processes, coordinating across teams, and making sure things actually get done. Here's what it actually looks like: Own analyses end-to-end: frame the problem, gather and model the data, pressure-test your own conclusions, and present recommendations directly to leadership Turn ambiguity into action: when the question is broad and undefined — a new market, a new product bet, a process that's quietly broken — structure it yourself, decide what data would prove or disprove your hypothesis, and drive the analysis without waiting to be handed a scoped brief Build the tools that inform real decisions: business cases, financial models, forecasts, and KPI dashboards that our founders and execs actually use to decide what happens next Improve how the business runs: spot the operational bottleneck nobody's named yet, design the better process, and help drive it into place across teams Run special projects that matter: coordinate stakeholders, keep initiatives moving from kickoff to delivery, and prepare the strategy documents, performance reviews, and investment memos that shape where the company goes next Communicate like it counts: distill your analysis into the one slide that changes someone's mind — lead with the answer, back it with evidence Your Qualifications You hold a Bachelor's degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related quantitative field You've done real consulting: 2–4 years at a Big4 or equivalent top-tier consulting firm, in a Strategy or Operations practice You've actually built the model, not just reviewed one: you can open a blank sheet and build a financial model, a business case, or an analysis from scratch in Excel at an advanced level — pivot tables, VLOOKUP/INDEX-MATCH, sensitivity tables, complex formulas are second nature — and turn it into a clean, executive-ready PowerPoint deck You think in hypotheses, not hunches: given an ambiguous problem, you can lay out the possible explanations, say what data would prove or rule out each one You take ownership without waiting for permission: comfortable with ambiguity, you scope your own work and drive it independently in a remote setting, rather than waiting for someone to hand you a fully defined task You communicate with real presence: you can distill complex analysis into a narrative a founder or exec absorbs in minutes, and you're fully fluent in English You are comfortable with the product category: you are fully comfortable working with products based on uncensored models and content Bonus points Genuine curiosity about AI tools Exposure to tech, AI, or high-growth startup environments A background in consumer tech, media, gaming, or marketplaces Why EverAI? Exponential Growth: From 50M users in 2 years, to 100M next — and 500M beyond Track Record of Category-Creating Innovation: We consistently launch world-first AI applications — setting the pace, not following it Global Impact: Top-tier user growth, real-world adoption, and cultural relevance Proven Leadership: A senior team that’s launched, scaled, and exited & IPO’d multiple scale ups — now fully focused on reshaping AI companionship Elite Remote Team: 100% remote and built to win — world-class talent from Tier 1 tech companies, with a culture of ownership, velocity, and radical creativity Ethical Core: Our AI ecosystem is governed by EverGuard, our proprietary AI moderation technology, ensuring responsible development at scale What We Offer Contract Type: We prefer B2B, but we’re flexible, what matters is long-term commitment and impactWork From Anywhere: Fully remote. Platform Engineering Manager - Platform Shared Services
Frontiers Media
1 - 2 Años
No Revelado
Madrid

About Frontiers At Frontiers, our purpose is simple yet ambitious: to make science open. We believe open science empowers the global scientific community to accelerate discovery and develop the solutions needed for healthy lives on a healthy planet. We are one of the world’s largest and most influential open-access research publishers. Every article we publish is peer-reviewed and quality-certified, ensuring research is accessible to everyone, everywhere. To date, Frontiers research has been viewed over 4 billion times, demonstrating the real-world impact of science without barriers. Joining Frontiers means being part of a global, mission-driven organization at the intersection of science, technology, and innovation — working alongside passionate colleagues who care deeply about advancing knowledge for the benefit of society. To learn more about our impact and culture, please watch this video. The Mission At Frontiers, we are rewriting the rules of scientific publishing. Behind every product team sit the shared technical services the whole publishing platform depends on. Today these are Identity & Access Management (IAM) and Messaging (transactional email and GDPR-compliant consent) — examples of this kind of shared service, with more likely over time — owned by our Platform Shared Services team. We are looking for a Platform Engineering Manager to lead the team that builds and runs them. You will own team delivery, technical direction (in partnership with your Senior Engineers), and the people development of a team of [5–8] engineers. These are high-blast-radius services consumed org-wide, so you'll balance shipping new capability with reliability, security and backward compatibility — treating the services as products for internal engineering customers. You'll form a delivery triad with the team's Platform Product Manager (who owns the What/Why) and your Senior Engineers (who drive the How). The Technical Context You will lead delivery across the team's shared-service lines — today IAM and Messaging. IAM: OAuth 2.0 / OIDC (Ory Hydra), JWT authorization, fine-grained authz via a Permission API (Ory Keto), Azure APIM, OAuth client tooling, shared .NET libraries. Messaging: transactional/outreach email at scale (SendGrid, Mailgun), templating and A/B testing, deliverability tooling, and a central GDPR consent authority (Subscription Management). Core stack: C#/.NET services on Microsoft Azure + Kubernetes (AKS); event-driven with RabbitMQ and Kafka; SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis, Elasticsearch. Delivery & reliability: CI/CD, observability (New Relic, Grafana), SLAs/SLOs and incident management. Ways of working: Spec-Driven / AI-First Delivery (PRDs/SDDs in git, the Technology Framework as executable context, Cursor, MCP) — available to help the team deliver faster and more safely. What You'll Do Lead the team day to day — oversee operations, resource allocation and task assignment across the IAM and Messaging portfolio. Turn roadmap into execution — translate the shared-services roadmap and portfolio objectives (owned with the Platform PM) into actionable engineering plans; ensure delivery aligns with department and wider engineering goals. Own team delivery — for authentication, messaging and related infrastructure: coordinate resources, manage risk, and deliver outcomes for the many teams that depend on these services. Partner with the Platform Product Manager — align roadmap priorities with technical feasibility, reliability and platform health; push back with technical reality where needed. Guide technical direction with your Senior Engineers — you don't need to be hands-on daily, but you provide enough depth to steer decisions on authentication and messaging infrastructure and to review architecture and design proposals. Develop people — set clear expectations, give regular feedback, support career growth, and run performance management for the team. Own reliability & operational excellence at the team level — SLAs/SLOs, incident management, and blameless post-incident follow-through; protect the team from unbounded toil. Improve process — identify and implement improvements that increase delivery efficiency and reliability across the team and portfolio. Represent the team cross-functionally — drive alignment with the engineering teams that consume shared services; escalate and manage significant technical/delivery risks to senior leadership. Requirements Management experience: minimum 4 + years directly managing engineering teams, in addition to prior hands-on software engineering experience. Delivery track record: proven delivery of backend, platform, or infrastructure services; experience managing teams responsible for shared/platform services (authentication, messaging, APIs) strongly preferred. Technical depth (to steer, not to code daily): solid background in backend engineering and distributed systems — enough to guide decisions on authentication and messaging infrastructure and review design proposals with senior engineers. Reliability & delivery practices: working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and service reliability (SLAs/SLOs, incident management). Platform / shared-services understanding: how internal engineering teams operate as service providers to the rest of the org. People & delivery balance: organised and outcome-driven, comfortable balancing people management (~60%) with technical/business activities (~40%). Planning: budget/resource planning experience for a team. Communication & judgement: clear communicator across technical and non-technical stakeholders; sound decision-making and comfort resolving ambiguity. Language: Professional-level English (spoken and written). Nice to Have Hands-on background with authentication/identity (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT) and/or messaging/event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ). Experience with Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes (AKS), and .NET/C# environments. Familiarity with GDPR / consent and security/compliance as part of the delivery bar. Experience leading a team through a CI/CD or platform migration. Interest in Spec-Driven Development and enabling an AI-First delivery workflow for the team (Cursor, MCP, the Technology Framework). Background in Scientific Publishing. How We Measure Success in This Role Delivery: predictable, healthy throughput against the shared-services roadmap; risks surfaced and managed early. Reliability: SLAs/SLOs met for owned services; incident trend and quality of post-incident follow-through. People: team health, retention, growth and clear performance management. Consumer outcomes: satisfaction/adoption from the engineering teams that depend on IAM and Messaging. Security & compliance: the team's output meets the Technology Framework bar (OAuth/JWT, GDPR consent). Why This Role Is Exciting You'll lead the team behind two of Frontiers' highest-leverage capabilities: get identity and messaging right, and every product team ships faster and safer. It's a rare mix of real people leadership, technical direction on interesting distributed systems, and platform-as-a-product thinking — all in service of a mission that matters: making science open for everyone. Benefits We prioritise office presence and emphasise in-person collaboration, but also offer appropriate adjustments where needed, in line with company policy Extra wellbeing days on top of your annual leave allowance Up to 3 paid volunteering days each year 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme (wellbeing, mental health, legal & financial support) Learning & development support via the Frontiers Learning Hub Equal opportunity statement Frontiers actively embraces diversity and is a safe and welcoming workplace. Recruitment is free from discrimination – including based on race, national or ethnic origin, age, religion, disability, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation. With employees from more than 50 different nations, our diversity creates vibrant teams and constantly challenges us to appreciate multiple perspectives.
