Backend Engineer
Tinybird
1 - 2 Años

Madrid

About Tinybird At Tinybird, we help developers and data teams take flight by unlocking the power of real-time data to quickly build data pipelines and innovative data products. With Tinybird, you can effortlessly ingest multiple data sources at scale, query and shape it using the 100% pure SQL you already know and love, and publish results as low-latency, high-concurrency APIs for your applications to chirp about. Developers can create fast APIs, faster, what used to take hours and days now only takes minutes! Tinybird is the essential tool that data engineers and software developers have been waiting for enabling you to drive innovation with ease. About the Product team The Product team owns and evolves everything that customers interact with in Tinybird. We turn the underlying platform into a cohesive, reliable, and easy-to-use product. We design and implement the interfaces, APIs, and workflows that our users interact with. But our work touches many layers of the software stack and we often contribute code to ClickHouse directly. These articles will give you an idea of the kind of work we do: https://www.tinybird.co/blog/lightweight-deletes https://www.tinybird.co/blog/fixing-clickhouse-alias-dependency-bug https://www.tinybird.co/blog/smarter-deployments-with-alter https://www.tinybird.co/blog/when-not-to-migrate-your-data https://www.tinybird.co/blog/new-logs-explorer What we are looking for We are looking for a highly experienced Backend Engineer who enjoys building and operating complex systems, and shaping how they are exposed as part of the product. You might be a good fit if: You have strong experience building backend services, distributed systems, infrastructure components, or high-volume production systems. You are highly proficient in Python. This is a must for this role. You are comfortable working close to production: debugging incidents, understanding system behavior, improving observability, and making services more reliable. You care about performance, reliability, cost efficiency, and operational simplicity. You are pragmatic: you can move fast when needed, but you know when stability, safety, and maintainability matter more. You take ownership, follow through, and make progress even when things are not fully defined. You like data and SQL, and you are curious about how real-time analytical systems work. You communicate clearly in writing. This matters because we work asynchronously, document decisions, write operational notes, and share context across teams. You use AI tools like Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, or others as a core part of your daily workflow, from building and debugging to exploring ideas, understanding unfamiliar code, and reviewing changes. Using them effectively has a clear impact on how you work and how fast you can move. You are fluent in English and Spanish. English is the main language we use at Tinybird, and Spanish is the day-to-day language of the Product team. You are willing to participate in on-call rotations, not only to keep the service healthy, but also to understand the real problems our customers and internal teams face. How we work We are a remote company, committed to a remote-first culture, but we have found that being together in person, especially in our Madrid office, often helps us move faster, stay aligned, and solve hard problems more effectively. Every now and then, we try to meet in person and spend time together. We believe in ownership, transparency, and clear communication. We value engineers who can balance speed with reliability, and short-term needs with long-term platform health. We prefer documented decisions, explicit ownership, and operational practices that make systems easier to understand and maintain. We work closely with platform, support, customer success, and other engineering teams because our work sits at the intersection of user experience, backend systems, and data. We have few mandatory meetings, under 2h/week. We know that deep work requires focus. Check out our blog or follow us on LinkedIn to learn more about what matters to us. This role includes both cash compensation and a stock options grant. You can find our typical starting salary ranges for this role listed above. The final offer within this range will take into account several factors, including candidate experience, qualifications, skills, business needs, and geographical location. We also offer: 22 days of holiday a year (plus your birthday and public holidays). Freedom to work from wherever suits you best. We provide up to €2,800 to help you set up your home work space. The Process Our process is designed for efficiency, and to get you an answer in a few weeks since the first meeting. These are its stages: First contact meeting, where you will meet the Hiring Manager of the process. Live Technical Assessment (1h, live, sharing screen, with 2 people from the team). You’ll have to optimize a piece of code representative of the work we do, and talk through your decisions. Team Alignment meeting (45min, with other 2 people from the team) to talk about technology and team work. A last meeting with our CEO to go over culture-fit, long-term company vision, and any other questions you might have. We make you an offer. And that's it!

We believe diverse perspectives make the work stronger. Our consultants bring different backgrounds, experiences, and ways of thinking to help solve complex problems and create lasting impact for clients, colleagues, and communities. At Oliver Wyman, we are proud of the values that we aspire to live by. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential. Quotient — AI by Oliver Wyman brings together deep industry insight, strategic advisory, and hands-on AI delivery to help organizations move from proof to production and from production to enterprise value. The role WAVE is a newly created team within Quotient. It exists to accelerate AI-enabled business development and help our teams move faster, think differently, and build with reuse in mind. As Platform / Infrastructure Engineer, you will own the foundations that make WAVE work. You will design and maintain the infrastructure that allows a small, fast-moving team to prototype quickly, deploy reliably, and scale with confidence. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building dependable engineering foundations and creating self-serve platforms that help others move faster. What you will do You will create the infrastructure that lets WAVE move from idea to deployment with speed, consistency, and control. You will: Design, build, and maintain the team’s cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines. Set up CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and disaster-recovery capabilities so solutions can move from prototype to deployment quickly and repeatably. Provide infrastructure as a service to the rest of the team through self-serve environments that do not bottleneck on you. Advise on the right infrastructure setup for each solution, including what is needed to support scale. Work closely with the AI Engineers to ensure their work can be deployed, monitored, and maintained effectively. Help WAVE make practical choices about environment design, release management, and operational resilience. Support a consistent engineering experience across projects, so the team can build once and reuse where possible. Contribute to a platform mindset across WAVE, where infrastructure is treated as a product the team can rely on. How you will be measured Our success is simple to state: the team should be able to move fast without losing reliability. You’ll know you are succeeding when engineers can self-serve the environments they need, when deployments are smooth and repeatable, and when the infrastructure consistently supports a growing pipeline of reusable AI work. Why join us? You can be your best here. At Oliver Wyman, you will find meaningful work, talented people, and a culture built on trust, support, and growth. Create solutions that have impact Build the technical foundations that help WAVE deliver AI-enabled work faster and more reliably. Help turn promising ideas into deployable solutions that can support proposals, prototypes, and reusable assets. Be part of a team where your work directly shapes what the business can build, reuse, and scale. Develop as a leader Take ownership from day one in a role that sits at the centre of WAVE’s engineering environment. Build credibility by helping others move quickly without compromising quality, reliability, or good engineering practice. Lead through technical judgement, practical problem solving, and clear communication. Learn without limits Build a rare mix of cloud engineering, platform thinking, and exposure to AI-enabled consulting work. Work closely with AI Engineers, the Technical Business Partner, and colleagues across Quotient and the wider firm. Deepen your understanding of how to design infrastructure for speed, reuse, and scale in a consulting environment. Thrive in a vibrant and inclusive culture Work as part of a collaborative team that values different perspectives and practical problem solving. Help shape how a new team grows, in a culture where people are encouraged to speak up, share ideas, and move quickly together. Join an environment that supports inclusion, teamwork, and mutual respect. Experience rewards that work for you Enjoy a role designed for learning, visibility, and growth inside a newly created team. Be part of a pilot that is built to scale, giving you exposure to how a new capability is shaped from the ground up. Work in a way that supports performance, development, and sustainability. Who can apply? We are looking for someone who is comfortable building and running internal platforms that other engineers depend on. The right person will combine strong engineering depth with practical judgement, and will enjoy working in a small team where infrastructure directly shapes delivery speed and quality. This role is well suited to someone who wants to work at the intersection of cloud engineering, platform reliability, and AI-enabled delivery. Required qualifications Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and a major cloud platform, ideally Azure and/or AWS. Solid experience with CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code. Experience designing and supporting disaster-recovery capabilities. Ability to build and run internal platforms that other engineers depend on. Practical understanding of how to support deployment, reliability, and scale across multiple solutions. Full professional English. Preferred qualifications Experience supporting data and AI workloads in production. Familiarity with Polaris Experience working in a fast-moving environment with multiple concurrent initiatives. Experience shaping platform standards or reusable engineering patterns. How to apply Please submit your CV and cover letter. If shortlisted, you will be invited to meet members of the WAVE team and discuss your experience, motivation, and approach to the role. What to expect during the interview process At Oliver Wyman, we want you to shine in your interview. Our process is designed like our work environment — it is challenging, exciting, and fun.
